Greetings from Key West! Hello from Capt. Tony Murphy with Key Limey Charters.  Thank you for your interest in my Key West Fishing Report and Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!

Key West Flats Fishing

It looks like May will come to a close as one of the best stretches of good weather in years. T

he winds continue to be unusually mild for spring, averaging 2-6 mph for most of the month. Even the worm-hatch this year was "going off" multiple nights here in Key West which is unusual.

The migratory Tarpon continue to move through the Keys in good numbers. Getting an early start just before daybreak will put you on the right path.

The Atlantic side of Key West running west toward the Marquesas has been producing a good number of tarpons. Darker fly patterns will usually be your fly of choice for the early morning giving way to tan or lighter fly patterns as you move over different colored bottom.

If using spin fishing gear, Hogy's work like champs in bone or black color. As for those targeting Bonefish and Permit, fishing has been on fire. The bones have been around in big numbers lately.

The Permit are still mostly offshore after spawning but will start to move over the flats looking for tasty crabs. As for now, Tarpon are still top game this week!

Good Luck!!!

Warmer waters have thinned out the larger schools of bait as many Captains have been making longer runs offshore to find fish.

The Dolphin fishing has been steady if not a little slower start to the season. Look for that to turn around as offshore winds begin pushing more and more weed lines closer to the shore.

Grouper and snapper remain a good option with captains fishing in 100-200 feet of water.

As always wishing you tight lines and fish boat side from the Capt. Tony Murphy!

Key West Flats Fishing

Not much has changed as far as migrating Tarpon moving through the lower keys. Early morning starts to the west of Key West can pay-off with big hook-ups. The Tarpon have been very finicky lately towards taking just any ole fly.  Mullet and darker Toad patterns have been great choices with the amount of bait around.

Don't get frustrated and remember to pay attention to the bait moving through and what the fish are following. Most Tarpon have been found in the deeper channels through-out Key West Harbor chasing large schools of mullet.

The Atlantic side has been paying off with more fish than the gulf side over the last week. Remember to pay attention to the multitude of other boats all looking for that hook-up as well. The harbors can get very busy when the large schools of Tarpon are packed in and feeding.

The boats don't always keep an eye out for YOU! If not on fly, captains do well using 10" Hogy in bone white or bone/black color.

Good Luck!!!

Grouper season has opened and many captains are seeing very good size grouper already. Warmer water on the reef has moved a lot of them into deeper water. 100 to 200 feet of water has been producing nice grouper as well as mutton snapper.

With all the clear water, the yellow tail snapper bite has been a bit slow. Clear water keeps the big boys deep. Captains doing well with Yellowtail have been fishing closer to the bottom in 75-100 feet deep over live bottom. Dolphin have been further out lately and still mostly schoolies or peanut size fish with a few juvenile cow and bulls mixed in.

As always wishing you tight lines and fish boat side from the Capt. Tony Murphy!

Migrating Tarpon have settled into a good flow through the lower keys with early morning starts to the west of Key West can pay-off with big hook-ups.

Many Tarpon have been found in the deeper channels through-out Key West harbor just before day break. These schools of Tarpon can be difficult to get them to eat with them usually moving quickly if not feeding on deep dives in the channels.

Remember to pay attention to the multitude of other boats all looking for that hook-up as well. The harbors can get very busy when the large schools of Tarpon are packed in and feeding. The gulf stream continues to bring in schools of bait to the nearshore reef. Captains are reporting many Dolphin, Mackeral and Sailfish feeding just off the reef in 100-200 of water. Yellowtail snapper fishing has been very good in 80-100 water with many flag size fish reports too.

Key West Flats Fishing

The tarpon migration seems to be in full swing. The weather will still continued to be windy at times, coming out of the east most of the week. Then by the week-end drop back down to a nice level before ramping back up next week.
The Tarpon have been seen all the way from far west Atlantic side of Key West to the gulf side basins and flats. The migration will still get heavier at times as more female tarpon move up from the southern Caribbean toward spawning grounds north of the Keys. Larger females in the 150lb+ range can be tough to land on fly or spin.
Pay close attention to the strip setting on the feed and bowing when they jump to give them slack. This action will keep you from pulling the fly or hook. Toads, Tarpon bunny's and bait fish patterns are all good choices this time of year. Tarpon can be finicky when it comes to eating, so don't worry, just try a different pattern.
Bonefish have been plentiful this week as well . Many captains are finding large bones to the west of Key West. The Permit action has been pretty quiet with the offshore spawning going on. The permit fishing will begin to pick up as they start to get hungry and move back over the flats looking for crabs.

The sailfish bite has come on strong with multiple releases reported by quite a few Captains. Anglers are still finding a mix bag of Bonita and Blackfin Tuna under frigate birds in approximately 200 to 300 feet to the west. I
n addition, there have been a lot of Kingfish landed at the end of the bar with a good west tide.  The large schools of dolphin will start to show up soon as more bait follows the gulf stream flow to our neck of the woods! This time of year, we usually will see schools of the peanut size dolphin.
As the summer rolls on by, we will start to get hook-ups on larger Mahi Mahi. The snapper action has been on fire in just 60 -100 feet of water outside of the reef-line. Caution should be heeded when venturing off-shore in windy conditions. As always we wish you tight lines and fish boat side!

Key West Flats Fishing

The weather will play a major role in fishing opportunities through the next week. We will have a steady ESE wind for a few days, then a few days of high winds out of the north up to 20+mph. With the winds being quite swirly this week, pay a close attention to the forecast as most days will have a windy down side to get out.
The last few days have been much better with many Permit and Tarpon being sighted to the west and east of Key West. We are seeing small pushes of migratory Tarpon on the north side of the keys and in some channels emptying into the Atlantic side as well. It will take a little more increase in water temps before we see the much larger schools of 100+ pound Tarpon.
Good news is the water has warmed up enough to see many schools Bone fish too. Captains are already reporting catches of both Bones and Permit on the flats. Just remember to pay close attention to the tides when picking the right flat to search for Bones and Permit.

Key West Flats Fishing

Great weather all week will make getting out on the flats a pleasure. Heavy winds are sporadic and typical this time of year, so having the next 10 days on the lighter side will be a nice change.
Over this past week-end we had the Cuda Bowl in full swing with over 50 anglers looking for the wolves of the flats!
The little dip in temps brought a lot of big fish into the flats. Even though the winds were ripping well over 20 mph on average, a 54" Cuda (Zach Huff) on spin and a 48" fish (Capt. Tony Murphy) was caught on fly topping the list during the Tournament.
Barracuda fishing throughout the winter can be the game of choice when the water and wind cooperate. Remember to keep the fly moving fast to get these brutes attention.
The Bone fishing has continue to be on fire with many captains reporting fish in the 10lb.+ range.  The Tarpon migration will begin to move threw our waters very soon. Look for these large females to start migrating as early as late February if the weather continues to be mild.

The cooler water temps offshore continue to bring lots of bait in closer to reef line. As a result the yellowtail snapper and grouper fishing just off the reef in 30-60 feet of water has been great!
A good amount of fresh bait, chum and flourocarbon leaders will put you on some of the best table fair! Captains have been gtetting a good amount of Tuna, Sailfish and Wahoo westward of Key West in 200-400 feet off the "Bar".
A few smaller schools of dolphin have been showing up early as well. With all the wind from last few weeks, look for good weed-lines to start packing up too. Remember keep an eye out for circling and feeding birds, which will be your best fish finder.

Key West Flats Fishing

saltwater angler key west fishing

Greetings from Warm and Sunny Key West!  The weather continues to be quite typical this time of year with winds moderate to heavy at times.

Good news is the wind direction should be mostly out of the East this week which gives captains plenty of places to fish on leeward side of the flats.

The Bone fishing continues to be plentiful to the west of Key West across the lakes area. Getting set up on a nice flat early and ahead of the incoming tide is your best time across the Atlantic side of these skinny waters.

Young Tarpon, Cudas, Permit and Jacks are seen cruising these shallow waters across the Lakes as well. With some over cast days ahead, remember to keep an eye out for puffs of mud or nervous water when visibility is low. This is usually a sign of feeding fish.

A number of Captains have also been hooking up on large size Cudas due to the moderately cool water in the back country too. With the Cuda Bowl just around the corner, this bodes well for a good tournament. Remember to keep the fly or lure moving fast for these brutes to be interested. Wishing you tight lines and fish boat-side!

The Winter weather has continued to produce an abundant of Tuna, King Mackerel and Spanish mackerel! With a little turn in the wind to a NE will also push a lot more bait toward the reef line and really keep the big Yellow Tail Snappers thick as well.

We are still seeing a lot of Snapper action in just 60 -100 feet of water. Be patient with the really big Flag size yellow tail. They don't get that big without being smart. If having trouble hooking up, try dropping down a size in your leader. This sometimes makes all the difference.

Sailfish are starting to move in as well. Venturing out on a windy day can be tough, but getting the chance to battle these beautiful fish is well worth it! As always wishing you tight lines and fish boat side from the Saltwater Angler!

Winds will be blowing 15-22mph most of the week and then another cold front with winds out of the north moves in over the Keys Saturday bringing temps down to the high 50’s. This will make most species move into deeper water for protection from the cold. Until then the Bonefish will continue to be found west of Key West, along with many Permit and Tarpon too.

East of us back in the basins Trout, Jacks and Cudas are in full swing. Sharks, Cudas and Snapper are relatively easy to find near deeper drop-offs around the mangroves.

Christmas week-ends cold winds will push a lot of the bait offshore onto the reef line and shallower. The Yellowtail snapper are being hammered with many large sized “flags” among them just outside the reef, in 100 feet of water or less. Wahoo, Tuna and Sails have been moving just outside the reef in 100-200 feet of water all the way down the western bar just outside of Sand Key.

Many captains are reporting large schools of Tunas both to the east and west of Key West. Loading up the live well with fresh bait is the key to success for Tuna. Remember keeping a rod loaded with your favorite top water plug on a wire leader could reward you with a chance at a Wahoo! Winter brings great bottom fishing for Grouper and Snapper too. Jigging with live or cut bait can really put you into a fight with one of these brutes!

Hello Anglers! We wish everyone a warm welcome from The Saltwater Angler!

The weather has been a little on the warm side for this time of year. This has kept a lot of anglers still chasing Bone fish and a few Permit to the east and west of Key West,  some juvenile tarpon are still being found as well.
With temperatures due to slowly cool down and water temps to fall the next few weeks, focus on the flats will change to different species. The large Barracudas, Sharks, Crevalle Jacks and Sea Trout will become a main focus in the "Back Country". When the temps on the mainland dip, we can start to see some Redfish show up too.
Keep in mind that snapper and smaller grouper make fine diner fare and can always be found near deeper ledges on flats.

Dolphin and Wahoo are being found as well.
The Sails have started showing up too. They primarily feed on ballyhoo, which are extremely plentiful around the reef during the fall. We wish you tight lines and fish boat side; complements from the staff at The Saltwater Angler!

Hello Anglers! We wish everyone a warm welcome from The Saltwater Angler!

The weather this week has been nothing short of spectacular. The autumn Keys’ days have been in the mid 70’s to low 80's with night time lows in the low 70's.
The extremely pleasant weather has been coupled with light, variable breezes out of the east around 5-10 knots, which makes for a great day on the water.
The numbers of bonefish have continued to be plentiful. Many captains are still seeing large numbers schooled up on the shallow flats with the incoming tide. As the fall temperatures continue to move in, only the warmest part of the day will bring them back onto the flats. But anglers have still been finding some scattered permit out to the west of the island on some of the larger flats.
In addition, there have been a lot of our winter species like speckled trout, redfish, ladyfish, cravalle jacks, black tipped shark, and barracudas caught on grass flats in about 6 feet of water.

Hello Anglers! We wish everyone a warm welcome from The Saltwater Angler!

The flats fishing has been picking up following the departure of Ian. The passing of Ian has brought some cooler water temperatures. There have been a multitude of schools of Bonefish seen on the grass flats recently.

They have been seen in large numbers on the gulf side as well as the Atlantic side of the Keys. These cooling water temperatures cause the fish to stay active into mid-day.

There have also been a larger numbers of permit sighted tailing on the flats this over the last two weeks. Lately, some of the schools of large permit have easily numbered in the thirties and forties on the surrounding flats. Also, there have still been quite of few tarpon landed recently over the last week.

Most of the tarpon caught have been juveniles. However, there have also been anglers who have come into the Saltwater Angler who have caught fish in the 100-pound range.

Key West Flats Fishing

The flats fishing this past week has remained hot. There have been a multitude of schools of Bonefish seen on the grass flats recently. They have been seen in large numbers on the gulf side as well as the Atlantic side of the Keys.

Although, the best bite of the day has been in the morning due to August’s increased water temperatures. These hot water temperatures cause the fish to become lethargic during mid-day which reduces the likelihood of landing a fish in the heat of the day. But the bite sometimes stays hotter, longer on the Atlantic side because of the cooler water entering the flats from the ocean.

There have also been a larger numbers of permit sighted tailing on the flats this over the last two weeks. Lately, some of the schools of large permit have easily numbered in the thirties and forties on the surrounding flats.

Also, there have still been quite of few tarpons landed recently over the last week. Most of the tarpon caught have been juveniles. However, there have also been anglers who have come into the Saltwater Angler who have caught fish in the 100-pound range.

Key West Fishing Report July 18, 2022

Greetings from Key West! Hello from Capt. Tony Murphy with Key Limey Charters.  Thank you for your interest in my Key West Fishing Report and Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!

Key West Flats Fishing

saltwater angler key west fishing

Winds will be up to 12-18 mph most of the next two weeks. It will still be hot and muggy with the flats heating up to high 80's, so getting out early before the flats reach those temps is your best option.

As the flats start to warm up around mid-day, most species will move into deeper water. Reports of large Bonefish being caught have been the norm the last few weeks.

Many Guides have released Bones over 10lbs lately. Just about any respectful shrimp pattern will get their attention just as long as it is presented right.

The Dell Brown Permit tournament has come and gone this past week. A lot of fish we spotted, but getting good shots was a little difficult. Still, quite a few Permit were released during the three-day Tournament leading one to believe the fishery is doing great. Timing your trip with the incoming tide with tan crab patterns will be the fly of choice for Permit.

Both small crab and shrimp patterns will work for both Permit and Bonefish. With the larger migratory Tarpon further up the state now, anglers will still have plenty of our juvenile fish around in the 20-50 lb. range. Along with the early morning bite, these tarpons can be targeted late in the afternoon as well. Try matching up the bait fish fly pattern with what the Juvies are feeding on to entice younger Tarpon to roll on your flies. Summer crab patterns will also work on Tarpon too.

With Lobster mini season just a week away, a quick reminder to keep a look-out for diver down flags. Keeping a good 300 feet away is advised. The Dolphin has been on fire! Blue water fly fishing can be so much fun if you can find feeding pelagic species too. Wahoo, Bonita's and some Tuna are also being landed regularly as well.

The man in the blue suit (Blue Marlin) has been making some appearances too! Just getting a hook up with a Marlin and seeing it blast out of the ocean can make a memory for a life time.

The grouper and yellow tail snapper have continued to bite well between 70-90 feet. Some fish have started to move a little deeper with water temps nearing 90 degrees.

Wishing all who venture out tight lines and fish boat side!!!

Greetings from Key West! Hello from Capt. Tony Murphy with Key Limey Charters.  Thank you for your interest in my Key West Fishing Report and Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!

Key West Flats Fishing

saltwater angler key west fishing

Greetings from Key West to our flats fishing in Key West report.

Summer is finally here! Our typical weather patterns of lighter winds and daily rain showers will become the norm as our waters begin to heat up.

As the flats start to warm up around mid-day, most species will move into deeper water. Getting an early start in the back country will be the key to getting shots at Bonefish, Jacks or even a Permit.

Timing your trip with the incoming tide with small tan crab patterns will work with all three species. As the larger migratory Tarpon move further north, anglers will still have plenty of our juvenile fish around in the 20-50 lb. range. Along with the early morning bite, these tarpons can be targeted late in the afternoon as well.

The Dolphin has been on fire! Many captains are reporting fish 25lb. and larger. Wahoo, Bonita's and some Tuna are also being landed regularly as well. The man in the blue suit (Blue Marlin) has been making some appearances too! Just getting a hook up with a Marlin and seeing it blast out of the ocean can make a memory for a life time.

The grouper and yellowtail snapper have continued to bite well between 70-90 feet.

Light winds and periodic showers should make for a good week on the flats. Larger schools of migratory Tarpon have been seen moving from the Atlantic side of the islands into the basins just off the flats. They have been a little picky this year causing many captains to change flies quite often to satisfy their appetites.

Paying close attention to what the Tarpon are feeding on will help you find a good matching pattern or bait...ie... crab, mullet, etc.  Most have been rolling in deeper channels just off the flats with the Atlantic Ocean side holding most of the fish. Try using a sink tip or stealth tip if you plan on taking a shot at these guys in deeper water.

The worm hatch has been light or not at all from most reports. This could mean the worms could start moving any day as we get closer the new moon. When the palolo worms do show up, look for the Tarpon to be gorging themselves and packing the channels between the islands. Hungry Bonefish and Permit have been seen roaming the flats in good numbers.

Many Captains have been reporting large bonesfish ranging from 8-11lbs. Just about any shrimp or small crab pattern if presented right will trigger a strike. Be sure to keep an eye out for nervous water or wakes pushing across the shallow flats. On days with low light or sun hanging low in the sky, try looking for puffs of mud as well. This is usually a sign of hungry fish digging for food. There will be a lot more boats out on the flats this time of year, so be courteous and careful.

With good weather over the next week, getting out to the reef or even further should be nice. Yellowtail snapper on the reef has been on fire. A good amount of chum and size 2-4 crusher jigs will have you hooked up in no time.

The Dolphin off shore have been the hot ticket lately. Good size schools of smaller dolphin will begin to give way to paired up bulls and cows as the summer rolls past. Deeper water with bottom rigs for larger mutton snapper and grouper has also been hot as of late. A few Cobia, Tuna and King Mackerel have been around too. Just remember to be alert when out on the deep blue sea.

Reef fishing still continues to be good as more bait shows up. Yellow Tail snapper and grouper will just get better as winter sets in. Although getting out with northern winds will make it difficult. Just remember to boat safe and pay attention to the weather forecast.

Key West Flats Fishing

Greetings from Key West to our flats fishing in Key West report.

The weather looks great for the next week or so, with lights winds just about everyday! Still some windy days will come and go, so picking the right day to fish will something everyone needs to pay attention to.
The migratory Tarpon have finally been showing up and migrating through the lower keys.  Most have been rolling in deeper channels just off the flats with the Atlantic Ocean side holding most of the fish.  Try using a sink tip if you plan on taking a shot at these guys. As the month goes on, more and more Tarpon will start moving through the keys.
With the worm hatch happening any day, look for hungry Tarpon to be gorging themselves and packing the channels between the islands. Hungry Bonefish and Permit have been seen roaming the flats in good numbers. Many Captains have been reporting the bones fish in very large numbers.
There will be a lot more boats out on the flats this time of year, so be curious and careful.

The sailfish bite has come on strong with multiple releases reported by quite a few Captains. Anglers are still finding a mix bag of Bonita and Blackfin Tuna under frigate birds in approximately 200 to 300 feet to the west.

In addition, there have been a lot of Kingfish landed at the end of the bar with a good west tide. We are still seeing a lot of Snapper action in just 60 -100 feet of water.

Big schools of yellow-tail snapper are in easy reach of most boats just off the reef line. Caution should be heeded when venturing off-shore in windy conditions.

As always, we wish you tight lines and fish boat side!

Key West Flats Fishing

saltwater angler key west fishing

Greetings from Key West to our flats fishing in Key West report.

The weather will play a major role in fishing opportunities through the next week with lighter winds finally letting anglers get out. We will have a steady ESE wind all week with just Sunday and Monday bringing higher winds. The last few days have been much better with many Permit and Tarpon being sighted to the west and east of Key West.

We are seeing small pushes of migratory Tarpon on the north side of the keys and in some channels emptying into the Atlantic side as well. The much larger schools of 100+ pound Tarpon have been showing up but just a little slower than years past. Good news is the flats have been steadily producing shots at Bonefish and Big Permit.

Captains are already reporting catches of both Bones and Permit all over the flats. Just remember to pay close attention to the tides when picking the right flat to search for Bones and Permit. Nervous water, shallow water wakes and even puffs of mud are good signs of Bones and Permit feeding.

Key West Flats Fishing

Greetings from Key West to our flats fishing in Key West report.

Spring is finally here and our waters have warmed up nicely! Spring winds will come and go, so picking the right day to fish will be something everyone needs to pay attention to.

Expect the winds on Wednesday and Thursday to be pushing 30mph. A good day to plan something else. Other than those days we have a at least 10 days of very favorable weather ahead.

Some larger migratory Tarpon have already started showing and migrating through the lower keys.  Most have been rolling in deeper channels just off the flats. Try using a sink tip if you plan on taking a shot at these guys. As the month goes on, more and more Tarpon will start moving through the keys. We are still a good few weeks away from the larger schools.

With the water temps back up, we could see them anytime. Hungry Bonefish and Permit have already been seen roaming the flats for tasty crabs and shrimp.

The March Merkin Permit Tournament has come and went with many fish being landed. It was a much better year than the last one. This could a good sign of a great Permit season this year!

Moving out to the reef line has continued to bring many large schools of Yellow Tail snapper. Small hooks and 8-10lb. fluorocarbon is a must to get the larger flag size to bite.

Bottom fishing in deeper water offshore has produced many Mutton snapper bites as well. Bouncing buck tail jigs or dropping live bait over live bottom will get you a chance at one of these brutes. Offshore stills is full of live bait which is keeping the Sail fishing, hot.

There are still a lot of Tuna around too. Look for these guys in deeper water from 200-400ft. Good weed lines and feeding birds will point you in the right direction. Most guides fishing from Sankey lighthouse all the way to the west end of the Bar are finding fish. Grouper season is just a month away, so get ready!!!

Spring is just around the corner and our waters have already started warming up! Winds will start to ramp up, so picking the right time to get out will be tricky.

Offshore continues to produce a lot of Black fin tuna in our area. The abundance of bait just off the reef line has continued to bring larger fish closer in.

Sailfish are also in full swing with captains reporting hook-ups in 200-300 feet of water just outside the color change. Even though it is a little early to see schools of dolphins showing up, captains are reporting their presence now as well. Most have been in small groups moving up and down packed weed lines just outside of the reef line.

Remember to keep an eye out for feeding birds as this will be an area of bait with feeding fish.

Key West Flats Fishing

Greetings from Key West to our flats fishing in Key West report.

Winds will be back in the mid 20's most of the week. Looks as if our cooler days are behind us the next few weeks.

Windows of opportunity where the weather cooperates will still be around all week. Hungry sharks, jacks, cudas  and sea trout in the back country basins along with Cudas will be your options until water temps rise.

With temps on the rise, Bone fish and Permit will begin to move over the flats looking for food. The winds will make fly casting somewhat difficult. Keep your cast low and side arm style to stay under the winds. Switching to light spin tackle will still give you more shots at fish when the wind kicks up.

Still having a backup plan is necessary in the winter here if you have just a few days to fish.  Finding shelter sides of mangrove islands and fishing for snapper is always an option.

Look for the warmest time of the day with lots of sun if you are going to try any flats. Jacks will also be hungry around bait schools tight to mangrove islands and typically don't mind moderate cold fronts.

The abundance of bait offshore continue to make fishing hot. A lot of bally-hoo have brought in nice size schools of Tunas, Sailfish and Wahoo.

As usual the wind this time of year make it a little difficult for smaller boats to venture out. Larger boats will keep you dry and make for a much more enjoyable day.

Look for the winds to begin forming nice weed-lines where smaller bait will hold. A good start is just off the reef in 100 to 200 feet of water.

Keep an eye out for feeding birds as well, these guys will be your best sign of feeding fish and bait. The yellow tail snapper bite on the reef continues to be good this time of year as well.

Key West Flats Fishing

The weather will continue to cooperate throughout the week with some scattered thunder showers popping up occasionally. Fly casting should be awesome! It will still be hot and humid so stay hydrated.

As with most days in the summer, getting out early before the flats heat up is your best time. When the flats start to warm up around mid-day, most species will move into deeper water.

Reports of large Bonefish being caught have been the norm the last few weeks. Many Guides have released Bones over 10lbs lately. Just about any respectful shrimp pattern will get their attention just as long as it is presented right. Permit fishing has been very good lately.

A lot of fish has been spotted, but getting good shots with the wind has been a little difficult. Timing your trip with the incoming tide with tan crab patterns will be the fly of choice for Permit. Both small crab and shrimp patterns will work for both Permit and Bonefish. A long with young Tarpon, Jacks and snapper are still options a long the edge flats as well. Anglers will still have plenty of our juvenile fish around in the 20-50 lb. range.

Along with the early morning bite, these tarpons can be targeted late in the afternoon as well. Try matching up the bait fish fly pattern with what the Juvies are feeding on to entice younger Tarpon to roll on your flies. Crab patterns will also work on Tarpon too, especially higher up in the water column.
