Get Ready To Fish Key West!

Greetings from Key West! Hello from Capt. Tony Murphy with Key Limey Charters.  Thank you for your interest in my Key West Fishing Report and Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!

The passing tropical storm that will be moving through the Gulf of Mexico will quiet things down early on this week. Winds will die back down to 5-10 mph range by Friday and should be a great weekend to get back out on the flats.

If heading out to fish with all this wind, it could be a time to break out the spinning rod. The water temps have cooled down some as a result of being overcast and with some rain fall already.

The fishing should bounce back by the weekend and be on fire from all the cooler water. Targeting bonefish is still red-hot with many captains having multiple release days. Lighter shrimp patterns from pink to light tan work great for those shadowy ghosts.

Bonefish will take smaller crab patterns as well just in case you are chasing Permit too. The Permit fishing has been slow this summer.

Early morning and late day have been the best times to see permit, or even get a shot at them. When fish are scarce on the flats try working closer to the mangroves. These areas can be cooler with snook and jacks feeding under the branches on bait. Juvenile tarpon are still a great fish to target even with the warm water.

Look for smaller tarpon to be feeding near deeper ledges near the mangrove islands.

Storm out in the Gulf will make Key West offshore fishing very rough.  It would be a good time to spend the day on land until it passes.

As always wishing you tight lines and fish boat side from Capt. Tony Murphy!
