The winter weather has descended on the Keys. This week the forecast is calling for winds from 5 to 25+ mph. A front had moved in last week, and is still lingering. Monday evening and lingering throughout the week. Monday through Wednesday is calling for a northerly to northeasterly wind in the upper to mid range of the wind range,
Thursday is calling for a west wind that circles back around to the north, then remains that direction until the end of the week. The forecast is calling for partly sunny skies, with clouds mixed in. The temperature is set to be in the upper 50’s to the mid 60’s, so the water temperature will definitely fall with the incoming front.
The winds will be in the 5 to 25+ mph range most of the week. Captains have been reporting groups of Juvenile Tarpon, with some bigger fish mixed in with the right conditions.
Bonefish have been a pleasant surprise with many fish being caught as the water temps cool down from the summer temperature increase. Look to find most Bones active on a tide change.
Permit have still been slow this time of year. There have been some permit around, but as always they can be picky and elusive. The large Cudas are out on the flats as the water temperature has started to fall. These guys are a great challenge on fly or light spin gear. Remember to get the fly moving fast to get their attention. They love live bait!
Wishing everyone tight lines and fish boatside!
