Current Report: OFFSHORE.
Congratulations to Capt Carl Reese on the loony tunes for winning the Cuban American billfish tournament.
I have to give myself a little pat on the back for winning the tuna division.
We had some great weather for the tournament but the fishing was very slow in the blue water.
In fact the fishing in the blue has been quite disappointing for this time of year, we should be loading up on tuna and sailfish.
We just experienced a good cold front so that should stir things up a bit.
The reef and inshore wrecks have been fantastic, big mackerel's jacks, yellowtails and barracudas.
Most of the reef species are eating fly's very readily, especially when we chum them into frenzy with live pilchards.
FLATS
Permit and sharks have been the main stay on the flats, on the days that it is slow the channels around the flats are loaded with jacks and snappers, a lot of fun on ultra light tackle with jigs.
Thanks For stopping bye.
Happy thanksgiving.

Current Report: OFFSHORE.
The shallow wrecks around the marquasa islands were very productive for my charters this week.
We chummed with live pilchards and caught fish both on fly rods and light spinners.
We landed several permit and lots of jacks, barracudas and snappers.
Anchoring on the deep wrecks in the Atlantic turned out to be great.
Several dolphin swam up to the boat along with Bonita and rainbow runners and some big barracudas.
Dropping on the bottom produced mutton snappers and lots of amberjacks.
The yellowtail action on the reef is holding steady with some nice catches coming to the dock. Trolling boats are reporting a few sailfish and Wahoo, on the hole I believe we are officially out of the summer doldrums.

Current Report: OFFSHORE
Not much happening in the blue water.
I have been sticking to the reef and wrecks mostly on the Atlantic side. Although I did have a client who wanted to take a chance and try for permit out on the gulf wrecks, it worked out pretty well for this time off year.
So yellow tails a few amberjacks and some mutton snappers have been fun to catch on my new Shimano tackle.
FLATS
Bonefishing this time of year is a lot of fun, if I am not chartered I like to take friends out to get them some good shots. Wading for them is my favorite; you can get so much closer to them. It really gets the heart pumping.
I talked a couple of other guides and they said the permit fishing down in the marquesas has been good.
Thanks for stopping bye.

Current Report: OFFSHORE
Fishing has been very good for this time of year; it can be tuff to keep the action going in August.
But with the dolphin fishing holding pretty steady it has given me a good game plan.
Dolphin fish in the morning, if it is good stick with it. But if it is slow I have been running back in to the reef and catching some nice yellowtail snappers along with a few mutton snappers
I am looking forward to that first cold front and the tuna that it brings.
FLATS
It is defiantly picking up arfter a very slow period.
The water has just been to warm, but in the last couple of weeks the mostly afternoon rain has dropped the temperature on the flats enough for bones and permit to feed.
It has been best on an in coming tide for the bones and an out going tide for the permit.
Thanks for dropping bye.

PS sorry for the lack of fishing reports, lots of fishing and a new baby boy in the family.

Current Report: Fishing has been great; I have had a lucky streak going with the Sailfish.
Shimano has been in town, and thanks to Jose on the Spanish fly I was able to fish some of the top people in the industry. On the first trip with the Shimano group, we landed 4 sailfish, a couple of teenage Doplhin, Bonitas and a Blackfin Tuna. It was a great day to field test all their new Trinidads and some of their new light spinning reels. After a few more days like that they decide to give me a sponsorship.
Offshore Fishing
Sailfish are still biting, which is unusual for this time of year. By now it is usually over with!
Dolphin fishing is in full swing with a lot of small fish and some nice fish in the teens. We are still waiting for the big ones to arrive.
Yellowtails are spawning on the reef, which make for a great half-day of fishing.
Fly fishing behind the shrimp boats out in the gulf is very productive. It is a long run out there but once you are there the tuna fishing is fantastic.
It is a great time of year for fishing. My favorite!
Flats Fishing
Tarpon on the flats started off a little slow this week. But by midweek the migration was in full swing. There were literally hundreds of fish rolling there way down the edge of the flats. There is plenty of Permit down around by the Marquesas, and a few Redfish have started to show up around the islands near Key West.
Thanks for stopping by,

Current Report: OFFSHORE.
Sailfish are still coming through but not in the numbers they were last week.
The blue water is all the way up on the reef, witch has made conditions to catch spawning permit perfect.
Yellow tails are biting well on the reef .The muttons will be the next big thing to happen on the reef. They will be spawning on the next full moon.
FLATS.
Tarpon are here lures and fly's in the morning and live pinfish the rest of the day.
Plenty of sharks and barracudas to break the day up with.
Thanks for stopping bye.

Current Report: OFFSHORE.
The kingfish really showed up in force this week , Jigging early in the morning seems to do best.
Tailing sailfish in 600 to 700 were a nice bonus this week.
March is a great month to fish, sailfish and dolphin offshore. Permit starting to move out to the reefs and Wrecks to spawn. Tarpon in the harbor.
Throw in the reef action barracudas yellow tails mackerel's jacks.
Great fishing.
FLATS>
Red-hot tarpon and permit fishing ,even bonefish. The water temp is no longer a problem, the nice warm weather has brought the temp over 74 . Thats perfect for this time of year.
Thanks for stopping bye.

Current Report: OFFSHORE.
We have had some good kingfish action although the fish have been on the small side 8 to 12lbs.
This week I have spent most of my time on the reef, catching yellowtail ,mackerel and jacks.
The action was good enough to catch them on fly rods.
The blue water is a little slow right now, with a few sailfish being caught bye buy the trolling boats.
FLATS.
Slow is the only way to describe it,If the water temp gets a chance to come up it will improve.
Thanks for dropping bye.

Current Report: OFFSHORE FISHING
Awesome is the only way to describe the fishing this last month. The Black Fin Tuna have been thick. Catching them with live pilchards on light spinning tackle has been fantastic. It has been so good that I have been able to catch more than ten tuna's on the fly rod in the last two weeks. The one day that the wind was too rough to go in the Atlantic, I went in the Gulf and caught big King Mackerel up to 35lbs and a 28lb on the fly rod. The reef fishing has been active with Ciero Mackerels, great opportunity for a half day fishing trip.
FLATS FISHING
Flats fishing has been on and off. Some days the water temperature gets up to about 70 degrees and we see plenty of fish, including a Pompano we caught last week. The other days when the water is too cold we fished in the channels on the edge of the flats and had some action Jacks and Lady Fish.
Thanks for checking in call Capt. Tony - 305-293-1814
